I uninstalled Pro 8 and reinstalled because the updates would not install. After a couple of hours, I decided to start with the 8.1 update and proceeded to 8.1.6. I discovered by updating one at a time, I was able to get all the updates installed. This was a total "pita" but it did work. Don't have 9 and at this time don't think I will need it. Hope this helps

If you think this self-heal business is bad, it at least pre-supposes that Acrobat actually runs!

If you are using network login accounts and network home directories, Acrobat Pro 9.0 or 9.1 and even Acrobat Reader 9.0 and 9.1 will not even successfully launch!!

For years I have justifiably lambasted Microsoft for their shoddy Mac software, but at least they are (slowly) improving. Adobe unfortunately are going the other way and are now far worse than even Microsoft.

The only positive thing I can say about Adobe is that at least generally, their Mac and Windows products are equivalent, whereas Microsoft still treat Macs very much as second (or even third) class citizens.

What really pisses me off in particular about Acrobat and network logins is that I spent TWO YEARS getting Adobe to fix a network login related bug in Acrobat Pro (affecting versions 7.0 to 8.0.x inclusive) and eventually got it fixed when I was a beta-tester for Acrobat Pro 8.1.

Yes, the old Acrobat 8 non-update issue. I recall having to make it recheck for updates (by going to Preferences, then click OK or some nonesense like that) , then it discovers there is an Updater update, updates the Updater, then the Acro Pro 8 update will install! Sometimes you have to go to Adobe.com then download and manually run the updater... ugh.

I have shifted 95% of my use from Adobe Acrobat... it is an absolute pain in the butt to keep updated. I have version 8 on three comptuers and version 9 on two. Version 8 constantly says there is an update, but whenever I try it fails.

It is sad that there are still a few "mandatory" sites that require Adobe to access their documents. Obviously, these are government sites where competition is non existent and dummies do the programming.

IMHO Adobe software is crap crap crap.
